By reason of transference of patients from one institution to another the 130

After-care.— The Medical Officer of Health has been advised by the
Insurance Committee whenever a St. Pancras insured person has been
admitted to an institution for sanatorium benefit and again upon his discharge.
This has enabled disinfection and any other necessary measures to
be undertaken after the patients' removal, and some supervision to be exercised
after their return. The arrangements for after-care have not been satisfactory,
half of the patients not being under systematic medical care after their return
home. The approved dispensary has not been much utilised for this purpose
during the year. Most of the after-care that has been exercised has been
done by the patients' panel doctors.
Of the 121 men and 44 women who have been through residential institutions during the year, after-care has been provided in the following cases by the agencies named:—-
Men. | Women. | |
---|---|---|
Panel doctor | 39 | 10 |
Other doctors | 2 | — |
St. Pancras Dispensary | 13 | 3 |
University College Hospital | 2 | 1 |
Mount Vernon Hospital | 1 | — |
Dispensary and panel doctor | — | 2 |

The following table is based upon the conditions in April, 1914, of patients admitted during 1913 as j udged by the visiting inspector: —

(1) Of these 10 are, however, not satisfactory.
(2) Of these 6 men were Rowton House residents and 7 women were domestic servants.
(3) Two of these said to be "not phthisis."
