The position then in St. Pancras is that no treatment of the non-insured'
tuberculous is being provided by any public authority (except inasmuch as
the Local Government Board have made a capital grant to the St. Pancras
Dispensary).
On the other hand, the London Insurance Committee have been providing
"sanatorium benefit" for the insured population of the Borough. This has
mainly taken the form of treatment in sanatoriums and hospitals, generally for
periods of a few months. Most of the institutions to which the insured have
been sent have been private or voluntary (including University College
Hospital in St. Pancras, which has been recognised as a suitable residential
institution), but patients have also been sent to institutions belonging to the
Metropolitan Asylums Board (under Sec. 39 of the National Insurance
Act, 1913). In all cases the arrangements have been made directly by the
London Insurance Committee with the governing bodies of the respective
institutions.
According to information received from the London Insurance Committee,
165 St. Pancras insured patients have been admitted to residential institutions
for treatment during the year at the expense of the Insurance Committee.
All of these, except about four (glands, finger, hip), were suffering from
pulmonary or laryngeal tuberculosis.
These cases have been carefully followed up by this department, and I have
been assisted by Miss Bibby in getting out the following information in regard
to them:—

The table below indicates what institutions have been utilised for the treatment of St. Pancras insured persons:—
