It will be seen from the last column that the death-rate for 1913 was the
lowest yet recorded, except those for 1910 and 1912. It may be noted in this
connection that the death-rate for the County of London for 1913 (14.2) was
greater than those for 1910 (13.7) and 1912 (13.6) only.
1707 deaths occurred in Public Institutions in the Borough. These are
tabulated in table 6 on page 106.
Taking from these the number which were of non-parishioners (650), and
adding the number of deaths of St. Pancras parishioners in Public Institutions
•outside the Borough (611—both from the Registrar-General's figures), the
number of St. Pancras deaths which took place in Public Institutions is
shown to be 1668 or 49.9 per cent. of the total deaths.
That one-half of the deaths of St. Pancras parishioners took place in Public
Institutions is a striking fact.
Table 5 on page 105 shows the death-rates for 1913 of England and
Wales, the County of London, the several Metropolitan Boroughs and the 30
large towns with populations exceeding 125,000. It should be noted that
the St. Pancras figures are shown in this table on the basis of the RegistrarGeneral's
estimate of the population which, as explained before, differs from
the estimate made in this report.
