Diagnostic Tests.— The number of specimens of secretion and blood submitted during the year in suspected cases of Diphtheria, and Typhoid or Enteric Fever, and the results of Examination were as follows:—

Revised Diagnoses.— From the Superintendents of the Metropolitan Asylums
Board's Hospitals during the year letters were received at varying intervals after
admission in reference to 13 of the total number of cases received that certain
patients were found not to be suffering from the diseases certified, namely,
7 certified as diphtheria, 4 as enteric fever, 1 as scarlet fever, and 1 as puerperal
fever.

Outbreak of Typhoid Fever.— On the 27th September, 1899, I reported that at a house in Haverstock Street occupied by three separate families, in one of the families, consisting of eleven persons, nine cases of typhoid fever occurred as follows:—

All the cases were removed to hospital on the dates shown in the above table,
but it will be observed that the first case was nursed at home for a week before
removal to hospital.
