The onlv fact that appears to prevail through the three tables is the comparatively
lesser mortality of Kentish Town.
SANITATION.
MORTUARIES.
The Mortuaries and Coroner's Court were completed at the end of the year
and readv for use. The next year's report will contain an account of the
work done, appended are the Rules and Regulations drafted by your Mortuaries
Sub-Committee.
PUBLIC MORTUARIES.
REGULATIONS AND DIRECTIONS.
For depositing bodies in the General and Infectious Mortuaries, situated in
Cambridge Street, on the East side of St. Pancras Gardens, N.W.:—
1.—Application for permission to deposit a body in the Mortuaries shall be
made to the Custodian at tbe Mortuaries, or at the Office of the
Sanitary Department, at the Vestry Hall, Pancras Road.
2.—A body, in case of emergency, may be deposited at any hour of day or
night, but in ordinary cases between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.,
from 1st October till 31st March, and from 1st April till 30th
September, from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m.
3.—The person depositing the body shall enter the necessary particulars
or furnish the information for entry in the book kept for that purpose,
and shall sign the book.
4.—A body (except in case of emergency) shall be conveyed to the
Mortuary in a hearse, or otherwise in a decent and proper manner,
inclosed in a pitched shell or coffin.
5.—A body having been brought or sent in a shell or coffin to the Mortuary,
such shell or coffin shall, under no circumstances, be removed other
than for the burial of the body contained therein, unless such shell or
coffin be painted or varnished, or be properly lined throughout with a
lining of metal.
