132 samples of milk and 16 of butter were procured in the
early morning and mid-day on Sundays during the past year. Of
these, 13 were found to be adulterated, this being a percentage of
nine, compared with 7.1 in 1907, and 7.08 in 1906.
The following Table shows the number of milk, butter, coffee,
and other samples submitted for analysis, and the number and
percentage of adulteration in each class. It also shows the number
of samples actually purchased by the Inspector, and the number
purchased by the various assistants employed, together with the
percentage of adulterations detected in each case.

In perusing the above Table the percentage of adulteration in
connection with potted meats and confectionery and jam appears
to be excessive. In the case of the potted meats, however, the
adulteration was confined to a boron preservative which in no
single instance was in such quantity as would permit of proceedings
being taken. This, in my opinion, is a very satisfactory
