Scarlet Fever.
1,069 cases of Scarlet Fever were notified during the year,
compared with 1,494 in 1905, 744 in 1904, and 822 in 1903.
180 of these were in Clapham, 34 in Putney, 255 in Streatham,
245 in Tooting, and 355 in Wandsworth.
895 or 83.8 per cent. of the cases were removed to hospital
where 16 died, and 174 or i6.2 per cent. were treated at home with
three deaths.
The total number of deaths was 19, of which six were in
Clapham, none in Putney, three in Streatham, three in Tooting,
and seven in Wandsworth.
The percentage of cases removed to Hospital shows a slight
decrease compared with 1905, the percentage in that year being
84.1, but it is an increase on previous years, as in 1904 the percentage
was 81.6; in 1903, 78.1; in 1902, 75; and in 1901, 70.6.
The case mortality during the year was 178 per cent., compared
with 1.87 in 1905, 1.74 in 1904, and 2.19 in 1903.
The mortality among the cases sent to the Fever Hospitals
was 1.79 per cent., compared with 2.14 in 1905, and among those
treated at home 172 per cent., compared with .42 in 1905.
The mortality in both these groups did not differ much in
1906, while in 1905 the percentage of deaths in hospital-treated
cases was five times greater than among those treated at home.
