Underground
Conveniences,
Station Road,
Balham.
Sanction has been given by the Local Government Board for the
Underground construction of Underground Conveniences for both sexes
stottontoad' Station Road, Balham, a description of which was
Balham. given in last year's Report. Tenders were invited for
the work, and that of Mr. E. Wall, Alice Terrace, Summerstown, S.W.,
of ₤1,790, was accepted.
A separate contract was entered into for the supply and fixing of
Sanitary Fittings, and the tender of Messrs. G. & D. Musgrave, Ltd.,
St. Martin's Lane, YV.C., of £106 6s. 2d., was accepted for this work.
The roof of the Convenience now forms a very useful refuge, the
traffic at this point being very heavy.
The work was commenced on July 31st, 1906, and the Convenience
was opened to the public on February 13th, 1907.

Railway Arch
Balham
Station.
A collapsible iron gate has been fixed at the Convenience under
_ the Railway Arch, Balham Station, the gate being
Conveniences
under supplied by the Bostwick Gate Co., and fixed by Mr.
BalhamE. Wall, of Summerstown. The total cost of this work
Station. was ₤14 2s. od.
Owing to the new Underground Convenience being open the
above Convenience under the Railway Arch has been closed, but it
will be open on Bank Holidays, Race days, and special occasions.

PRIVATE DRAINS.

The following are the particulars of the private drains which have been constructed by the Council during the past year, the cost having been paid by the persons for whom the work was executed :—

In addition to the above, 124 drains, comprising 785 feet of 9-inch,
1,044 feet of 6-inch, and 800 feet of 4-inch pipe, have been laid under
new roads at the time of, and in conjunction with, the construction of
new sewers; these are intended to drain about 612 houses when built
(the provision in many cases being for a future system of rear drainage
