foundations for lift, rising main and sewer were constructed by the Council's employees, the cost being as under, viz.:—

By arrangement with the owners of the estate, the ditch between
Beaumont Road and the western boundary of Melrose
Gardens has been piped with 12-inch pipes by Unemployed
labour, at a cost of £302 9s. 6d. The owners contributed
£185 towards this amount.

The amount expended in the maintenance of these, together with
20 urinals, was ,£1,747 6s. 1od.
The Underground convenience mentioned in last year's Report
has been completed by Messrs. W. & C. Brown, at a
cost of £781 1s. 1od.

Application will be made to the Local Government Board for
permission to borrow £2,000 for the purpose of
constructing an Underground Convenience for both
sexes in Station Road, Balham, in lieu of the present
convenience under the railway arch at Balham Station.
