One death, which was not notified, occurred in the
Prison, making a total of 17.
Of the 17 deaths, three occurred in the Middlesex
Lunatic Asylum, and one in the Prison, giving a
corrected total of 13.
The corrected case mortality was 21.6, compared
with 16.6 per cent. for the whole of London.
In nine of the cases notified, the disease was
contracted in other districts; in six, the patients had
eaten shellfish within the period of incubation of the
disease; and in 21 sanitary defects were found in the
houses occupied by the patients. One of the cases
was a soldier who had come home on furlough from
Curragh Camp and who was ill before leaving. In one
house there were four cases notified, in one three, and
in one, two.
The disease was most prevalent in the Earlsfield and
Heathfield wards, but was not present in epidemic form.
