Infantile Mortality. Of the deaths registered in the Sub-District,
97 were of infants under one year of age,
being equal to 202 per 1000 of the births registered
during the same period Many of the infants, however,
were non-residents, having died whilst under treatment
in the local hospitals. The corrected total was 85.
Senile Mortality. The following table indicates the deaths
recorded in the district, at high ages during
the year. The deaths from "old age" unassociated with
other diseases, numbered 16:—

inquests. During the year the Coroner found it
necessary" to hold 13 inquests as follows :—
Natural Causes 8
Violent Causes—(Scalds, 1 ; cut throat, 1;
found dead, 1; poisoning, 1; fall, 1) 5
Total 13
Other deaths were brought under the notice of
the Coroner, but the circumstances being such as to
render inquests unnecessary they were permitted to be
registered, and are consequently indicated in the returns
as "submitted to the Coroner." Inquests were also held
in other parts of London, concerning deaths of "residents
" in outlying institutions.
