Ages at Death. Of the total deaths, 25.3 per cent, were of
infants under 1 year of age, and 24.3 per
cent, of persons above the age of 65 years.
The infantile death.rate was for the various sub.
districts as follows:—
Clapham 163 per 1000 births.
Putney 128 ,, „
Streatham 119 ,, ,,
Tooting 138 ,, ,,
Wandsworth 169 ,, ,,
The entire District 142 ,, ,,
The rate for the Metropolis in 1898 was 167. The
rate in the Wandsworth District was low as compared
with other London districts, but showed a rise on the
previous year, when it was 127 only.
