“an over-estimate” and that “my estimate of the population is some
2,000 lower.” But the Census Returns of 1911 show that even the
latter estimate was too high by nearly 2,000.
The estimated population for each of the Sub-districts is as
follows:—
The Northern Division of the Borough (lying North of the middle
line of Church Street) has a population of 17,040 ; and in the Southern
Division the population is 33,629.
The natural increase of population by excess of births over
deaths during the year amounted to 413, as against 355 in the preceding
year.
Alumber of people to the acre.—The area of the Borough
amounts to 863 acres, and this, divided among the residents.
furnishes 59 people to the acre.
Births—Birth-rate.—During the year 1911 there were 1,047
births registered in the Borough, viz.—534 males and 513 females.
The birth-rate per 1,000 per annum was therefore 20.7, as against
18.3 for the preceding year. The births in the Northern Division
of the Borough numbered 189 and the birth-rate w;is 11.1, while those
in tlnj Southern Division were 809, and the birth-rate was 24.0.
