Tuberculosis. -The deaths from Phthisis of the Lung numbered
57, or 4 more than in the previous year and 5 more than
the yearly average for the preceding 5 years. Three of these 57
deaths occurred in persons who had been removed to the Edmonton
Workhouse. During the last four years the number of deaths
from Phthisis has increased rather more than in proportion to
the growth of the population, so that the death-rate from consumption
per 1,000 persons living has slowly risen.
From forms of Tuberculosis other than Phthisis there were
26 deaths registered, an increase of 10, compared with the year
1908.
The total deaths from all forms of Tuberculosis were, therefore,
83, or 14 more than in the previous year.
