ing the 4¼ years being equal to nearly 82 per cent. of the census
population.
In the combined West and East Hornsey Ward (what was in
1901 the Hornsey Ward), the increase of population during the
same period is equal to 30 per cent. of the original population.
In Highgate the increase has been nearly 16 per cent., and
in Crouch End 11 per cent., and in the other Wards the increase
has been trifling.
Births.—The number of births recorded during 1905 was
1,567. This is a decrease in the number of births, as compared
with 1904, of 92.
Ten of the births occurred in the Edmonton Workhouse.
The birth-rate for the year was 18.38, and that for 1904 was
19.69, a considerable fall in a birth-rate, already very low.
Of the 1,567 recorded births 25 were illegitimate.
