Sanitary Condition of Workshops and Workplaces.—
The most common defect found on inspection was want of cleanliness.
In 102 instances it was necessary to call the attention of the
occupier to the dirty condition of the premises, but in no case was
further action necessary, as the matter was promptly attended to.
In 30 cases the arrangements made for ventilation of the workrooms
were inadequate. In each case sufficient means of ventilation
were provided without unreasonable delay.
No cases of overcrowding of workrooms were discovered.
In 5 of the 27 laundries the means provided for draining off
the wet from the floors were insufficient. In each case the defective
arrangements were remedied.
Home Work.—There are 83 persons on the list of Homeworkers.
Only 1 case of infectious disease has occurred in a house
occupied by a home-worker. In this case the nature of the work
and other circumstances rendered it necessary to prohibit the
carrying on of the occupation for a time.
