Thus the first month is by far the most fatal, 41 per cent. of
the total deaths under 1 year occurring during this month. Of
these 23, or more than half, are due to premature birth, congenital
defects and injury at birth. Details as to causes of death at each

month are embodied in Table V. at the end of this report.
