To His Worship the Mayor, the Aldermen, and the Members of
the Council of the Borough of Hornsey.
Gentlemen,
I beg to present to you my Report on the health of the
Borough of Hornsey for the year 1905.
The birth-rate, which has been steadily falling for more than
twenty years, is 18.38, a lower figure than ever before recorded.
In 1894 the birth-rate was 33.6.
The death-rate is again an extremely low one, and is, in fact,
the lowest on record for Hornsey and, I imagine, for any large
town.
Even more gratifying is the very low Infantile mortality, viz.,
67, as against 86 last year and an average yearly rate for the last
10 years of 99. Here again the rate is the lowest ever recorded.
The number of cases of infectious disease notified is higher
than in the previous year, but is well under the average yearly
number for the last 10 years.
The statistics relating to deaths from Cancer and Tuberculosis
are set out in considerable detail in the report.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
HAROLD COATES, M.D., D P.H.,
