OPHTHALMIA NEONATORUM.
(Purulent Disease of the Eyes of newly-born Children).
This disease became notifiable from the 13th March, l9ll, from which
time to the end of the year 39 cases were notified, 3 in the first quarter of
the year, 18 in the second, 9 in the third, and also 9 in the fourth.
As soon as the disease is notified, a call is made at the house to
inquire if the mother would be willing for a nurse to call from the North London
Nursing Association to attend the patient: for that institution has most kindly
agreed to send a member of their nursing staff to such cases. If they
had not given this assistance one cannot think what we should have done in
Islington.
