Molor Disinfecting Van.—The motor van during 1930 completed
4,408 miles, carrying 3,192 cwts. of goods. The petrol consumed was
422 gallons, equal to 10.4 miles per gallon.
Mortuaries.
The number of bodies removed to the Council's mortuary under
order of the Coroner, or to await burial, was 289.
Inquests were held at the Coroner's Court, Horseferry Road, in
282 cases, and there were 19 adjourned inquests. Post-mortem
examinations were made in 190 instances. Seven bodies were received
in the mortuary chapel to await burial.
For some time past complaints had been made as to the inadequacy
of the heating arrangements of the Coroner's Court. The system had not
been altered from the time it was installed when the premises were built
some 40 years ago. As the system was out of date, inefficient and wasteful
of fuel, an entirely new system is to be put in at a cost of £160.

The number of dead bodies taken to the mortuary for purposes of inquest, and to await burial, during the last 27 years is set out as follows:—
