In several instances the continuance of cases of scarlet fever has
been due to the presence of a child who has had the complaint in a
mild form and the nature of the disease has not been recognised. It is
sometimes a matter of difficulty to discover the source of infection, and
entails an examination not only of those attending the school but of
others who may be temporarily absent, and an inquiry as to any illness
in their homes. The attendance of various members of a family at
different schools promotes the diffusion of infection among the
schools.
16 rooms in five schools were disinfected, together with 90 books
and other articles. As to the arrangements for dealing with children
affected with vermiu, see below under " disinfection."
517 school children suffering from various non-infectious complaints
were visited for the Care Committees and Hospital Almoners, by the
Health Visitors.
