Maintenance of Footways.
Asphalte Footways.
The gravelled footway in Commercial Road, along the
east wall of the Barracks to Chelsea Bridge Road, and also
portions of Chelsea Bridge Road, Union Street, Passmore
Street, and Ranelagh Grove, have been paved with asphalte
by the Yal de Travers Asphalte Company.
Repairs to Footways laid with York Stone.
The gravel footway on the north side of the Grosvenor
Road, between Westmoreland Street and Caledonia Street,
has been paved with 3-inch York flagging, and charged to
the respective owners or occupiers of property abutting
thereon, to whom the cost has been apportioned.
Notice had been previously served upon them giving
them the option of laying down asphalte at their own
cost, otherwise the Vestry would proceed to lay York
flagging and recover the expense as directed by the 78th
Section of the Metropolis Management Act.
Mr. 0. H. Smith, of 111, Grosvenor Road, agreed to the
offer of the Vestry, and he has therefore been allowed the
difference of cost between Asphalte and York stone. The
total cost of the work was £-ib9 5s. 2\d. The payment is
distributed over a period of ten years. York flagging lias
also been laid on the footways of other streets, the cost of
which, with other particulars, is shown in the tabulated
statement of Masons and Paviors' Work.
There have been constantly employed during the last year,
in the various repairs, &c., four masons and four paviors;
they have relaid certain portions of the foot and carriageways
which were worn, sunk, or broken, using new materials,
