rities of the occurrence of infectious diseases within their
districts, having been introduced into Parliament, the
Vestry, believing that the compulsory notification of the
occurrence of infectious diseases would materially assist the
Sanitary Authorities in their endeavours to prevent the
spread of such diseases, petitioned Parliament in favour of
the Bill.
The Bill became dropped.
Bill of Sales Act (1878) Amendment Bill.
The Vestry asked the Members of Parliament to support
Clause 13 of this Bill, which would render a bill of sale
inoperative against a distress for poor and parochial rates.
Such a provision would occasionally be of much assistance
in the collection of the rates.
The Bill was ultimately passed with the desired Clause
retained therein.
Charges of Water Companies.
The Vestry unanimously passed the following resolution
on this subject, viz.:—
That this Vestry regret that owing to the passing of the
Valuation (Metropolis) Act, 1869, the charges made
by the Metropolitan Water Companies for Water are
continually being raised, while no additional benefit
whatever is conferred upon consumers; and that the
Government be urged to introduce a Bill during the
ensuing Session restraining the Metropolitan Water
Companies from taking advantage of the gross value
as created by the above-mentioned Act, it never
having been the intention of the Legislature that
such gross value should be used for other than
Imperial and Local purposes.
A copy of the above resolution was forwarded to
the Home Secretary and the Members of Parliament for
Westminster.
