The number of bodies deposited in the Council's Mortuary, Cottage Street, Poplar, during the year was 343:—

Inquests were held on 283, and 52 post-mortems were made by order
of the Coroner. The total number of post-mortems made was 114. Eight
bodies were brought to the Mortuary for custody only, pending burial.
