One hundred and thirty-seven swabbings from throats of doubtful
cases of diphtheria were forwarded for bacteriological examination
to the Jenner Institute of Preventive Medicine. The bacillus
diphtherise was isolated in 48 instances, and the pseudo diphtheritic
bacillus in 9 cases. See pages 32, 33 and 34 as to cases of diphtheria
admitted into Metropolitan Asylums Board's Hospitals which were
certified as not having the complaint.
