The shops and market stalls from which food-stuffs are purchased
in my district have received constant attention, and surprise visits
have at times been paid, but, taken as a whole, very little has been
found to complain of in connection with same, the vendors preferring
to draw my attention to any unwholesome food, and have ???
destroyed sooner than expose it for sale.
At different times during the year I have destroyed—
9 cases of unwholesome sardines.
48 boxes of ,, tomatoes.
2 " kits" of „ herrings. | ||
Packages of „ bananas. | ||
1 kit of ,, plaice. |
and odd lots of fruit. Two lots of Valencia raisins (about lour tons),
condemned by the Port Sanitary Authority, have been received id
my district and the disposal of same carried through.
On one occasion I found some children eating some coarse meat,
and. on close examination, found it to be "horseflesh." I ascertained
where it was purchased and visited the premises.
