From the foregoing summary it, will be seen that the decrease in the number
of deaths under 5 years of age is very marked when compared with the average
deaths at those ages during the preceding ten years.
There was also a decrease in the number of registered deaths at the several
age periods up to, between 35-45 years, after which there was an increase.
Whilst, however, it would appear that the death-rate of the aged people of
Islington is increasing, the records for the past year disclose the fact that 1,740
deaths occurred between the age period 65 years and upwards; but a number
of these old people attained ages of unusual longevity, as instanced by two
females, whose ages were given as 100 and 101 years respectively.
It may also be of interest to record that during the second week of December, 1927, the actual ages at death of the following eight persons averaged 93 years:—
Sex. | Age. | Where Died. |

INFANTILE MORTALITY.
Infant Deaths, 324; Mortality Rate, 53.—The deaths of 321
infants under twelve months old were registered during the year, or 208 below the
decennial average (532), and they were equal to the low infant mortality rate of
53 per 1,000 births. This rate is the lowest on record and 24 per 1,000 births
below the mean annual record of the preceding ten years, and is 13 per 1,000
below the rate of last year (1926).
