Some 31 notifications of dysentery were received during the
year, of which 2 cases were subsequently rediagnosed as Food
Poisoning. The total of 29 shows a decrease of 40 from the number
received in the preceding year.
Two patients were admitted into hospital but no fatalities were
recorded.
Ophthalmia Neonatorum
There were no cases notified during the year under review, a
situation similar to that for 1969.
Poliomyelitis
As with the previous year, no case was recorded during 1970.
Completed primary poliomyelitis inoculations carried out during
the current year numbered 2,629, 321 of which were by general
practitioners. Reinforcing doses totalled 3,228, again with 524
being given by general practitioners.

Acute Meningitis
Of the 14 notified cases of acute meningitis, 13 were admitted to
hospital and one was notified posthumously.
Twelve cases of acute meningitis were notified during the
previous year.
Acute Encephalitis (Infective or Post-Infectious)
The one case notified during 1970 was "post-infectious" which

No deaths were recorded.
Tetanus (prophylaxis)
During the year, 2,332 persons were protected against tetanus
and 4,969 reinforcing doses were given, both being part of combined
