and, as usual, all children and trainees were subvented at the rate
of £2 per head.
Forty children from the Maze Hill Training Centre attended, for
one week in June, the purpose-built holiday home in New Romney
owned by the National Society for Mentally Handicapped Children.
Cost to the parents was £13 2s. Od. Some 18 trainees from Park
Vista Adult Training Centre spent a week's holiday during May
at a Cliftonville boarding house at a cost of £8 18s. 6d. and, at a
cost of £12, a further 17 trainees from Blackwall Industrial Training
Centre spent a week at Bracklesham Bay in September.
Seventeen trainees from Tunnel Avenue spent one week at a
boarding house at Cliftonville in June and a further 9 went on a
walking holiday in the Lake District at a cost of £10 18s. 8d.
Charges for all holidays were subject to abatement under the
Council's assessment scale and some recipients paid only a few
shillings.

Eltham Creche
Under the control of the Greenwich Society for Mentally Handicapped
Children, this nursery provides accommodation for some
15 mentally handicapped young children each day. A number
of the 24 children sponsored by this Council attend on a part-time
basis.
Boarding Out
A few adult subnormals are boarded out with local landladies
and where the patient is unable to earn sufficient for his keep or
where statutory benefits fall short of needs, facilities exist for the
Council to subvent.
