Deaths from coronary disease which have attracted considerable
attention are now set out separately for the first time; previously
they were included among other Heart diseases.
Maternal Mortality.
There were no maternal deaths during the year.
Inquests.

Inquests were held on 24 residents during the year. The causes of death found were:—

Natural causes5
Road Accidents: (Males 72, 25 and 13 years, and Female 3 years)4
Misadventure: (Males 61, 53 and 53 years, and Female 73 years)4
Accidental Falls: (Males 70, 69 and 42 years, and Females 85, 84 and 81 years)6
Asphyxia due to inhalation of vomit: (Male 44 years)1
During operation whilst under anaesthesia: (Male 51 years)1
Suicide: (Males 67, 58 and 21 years)3

Infant Mortality.
There were 12 deaths amongst infants under one year of age and
the Infant Mortality rate based on 1,000 live births was 19.4. Of
these deaths 7 occurred in the neonatal period; 1 occurred in an
illegitimate child also in the neonatal period. The neonatal mortality
rate was 11.3. The comparative infant mortality rates for London
and England and Wales were 26.3 and 29.8 respectively.
