Cancer Deaths
During 1963 the number of deaths of Battersea residents from
cancer was 234 (121 males, 113 females), as compared with 247 in 1962.
The death rate from the disease per 1,000 of the population was 2.27.
The deaths from cancer constitute 18.2 per cent, of the total Battersea
deaths during the year.

Infant Mortality.
During 1963 the death of 47 infants under 1 year of age were
registered as belonging to Battersea. The total number of live births
registered during the year was 2,361, giving an infant mortality rate
of 19.91 per 1,000 live births as compared with 20.59 in 1962 and
21.41 in 1961.
The infant mortality rate in England and Wales during 1963
was 20.9.
