Housing.

Slum Clearance.
Representations for slum clearance were made in respect of twelve
areas, 166 premises being represented out of 241 inspected. The twelve
areas concerned are situated in the Culvert Road, the Winstanley Road
and the Battersea High Street areas.
Following a Public Inquiry concerning three areas represented in
1957, the Orders were subsequently confirmed.
A request was received from the Housing Committee as to the
possibility of obtaining a detailed survey under the Housing Act of the
Winstanley Road Area, in the shortest possible time, by the existing
staff of Inspectors. The Health Committee agreed for the work to be
undertaken by a re-arrangement of the normal work of the Inspectors.
and for work outside normal office hours to be undertaken. The survey
was carried out within the prescribed time, and 845 houses were inspect
in detail. This information was submitted to the Housing Committee
who were able to reach a conclusion as to the best method of dealing
with the Area. This subject is also referred to in the preface to to
Report.
Closing Orders.
Under Section 17 of the Housing Act, 1957, 8 Closing Orders in
respect of dwelling houses were made during the year, and 37 basement
rooms and 3 other parts of dwelling houses were closed under Section 18
of the Act.
Demolition Orders.
No Demolition Orders under Section 17 of the Housing Act,
were made during the year.
