Deaths of Illegitimate Infants.
The death rate amongst illegitimate children during 1957 was
46.36 per 1,000 illegitimate live births, as compared with 48.78 in
1956. The corresponding death rate of legitimate children in 1957 was
20.18, the ratio of mortality rate of illegitimate infants to that of
legitimate being 230 to 100. The corresponding figure for 1956 was
223 to 100.
Maternal Mortality.
During 1957 there were three deaths from "diseases or accidents
of child-birth," which is equivalent to a fatality rate of 1.59 per 1,000
births (live and still). There were three such deaths during 1956.
The rate for England and Wales in 1957 was 0.47.
