All the above were assisted from the voluntary fund.
The National Assistance Board is able to give financial
assistance in some cases. In certain circumstances they can
also give additional monies to purchase clothing, bedding, pay
fares and hire purchase payments. After investigation the
Secretary referred 172 patients to the Board for assistance.
During the year close co-operation with the voluntary
organisations in the Borough was maintained: The British
Red Cross Society, Family Welfare Association, Legal Advice
Bureau, Nursing Associations, Invalid Childrens' Aid Association,
Soldiers, Sailors and Air Force Families Association and the
Women's Voluntary Services. We thank them for their
assistance. We also thank the official Bodies who have always
readily given advice.

NON-NOTIFIABLE DISEASES.
Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis.
Only one case of this disease came to the notice of the
Public Health Department. This was in the person of a woman
who was removed to hospital in February stated to be suffering
from poliomyelitis. The diagnosis was subsequently amended
