Natural and Social Conditions of the District.
Population.—The 1921 Census enumeration of the population
of this Borough, according to the adjusted figures of the RegistrarGeneral,
numbered 267,198 persons, 125,548 males and 141,650
females.
The estimated population to the middle of the year 1922 was
given by the Registrar-General as 270,300 and the calculations in
this report are based on this figure.
The area of the Borough is 4,480 acres, which gives a density of
population of 60.
This figure is apt to give a wrong impression, as a large part
of the area of the Borough lying to the south of the road from
Camberwell Green to Queen's Road Station consists of fields not
yet built upon. The density figure per room, as shown on the last
Census return, is more valuable, and varies from 0.69 in Addington
Ward to 173 in the College Ward, the average for the whole Borough
being 0.96.

The estimated population of the different wards is as follows:— Population of Wards.
