The number of cases was slightly above the average number notified in the past ten years.
The deaths were considerably below the average number, and the type of the disease as indicated
by the case mortality in the following table was extremely mild.

The source of infection was discovered in 99 cases. Ten patients are known to have been
infected in places beyond the Borough. Six cases occurred in homes to which convalescent scarlet
fever patients had recently returned. In twenty cases the infection appeared to have been acquired
in school.
ENTERIC FEVER.
The number of cases of enteric fever notified during the year was 47, the number of deaths
being 8. The case-mortality, 17 per cent., shows the disease to have been severe in type. Among
other points of interest in the following table will be noted the very remarkable decline in the
prevalence of enteric fever which has taken place during the last ten years.
