Dairies, Cowsheds, and Milkshops Order. At the
commencement of the year, there were 2 0G premises on
the Register of Dairies and Milkshops; 11 new applications
have been received during the year and added to
the Register, and 35 names have been taken off, thus
leaving a total of 182 premises now registered. During
the year 261 visits of inspection have been paid to these
premises; notices were served upon the occupiers in 22
cases, 9 of which were for dirty premises generally, in
1 case for dirty milk vessels and utensils, and in 12
instances for general insanitary conditions.
Under the powers conferred by the London County
Council (General) Powers Act. 1908, Section 5, with
respect to the registration of premises unsuitable for the
sale of milk, such registration has been refused on the
grounds of the unsuitability of the premises in 6 cases.
Ice Cream Premises. There were 118 premises known
at the commencement of the year where the manufacture
of this commodity was carried on, 15 have been added
during the year and 7 taken off. leaving a total of 120
premises. These premises were inspected on 134 occasions,
and improvements, either by way of cleansing of
the premises in 11 cases, or the remedying of sanitary
defects in 3 cases, and 5 suitable ash receptacles required.
The London County Council included in the General
Powers Bill of this year clauses calculated to cure the
defect in the law, which was set out fully in the Annual
Report for last year, whereby the same provisions were to
have effect with reference to a stand as appertain to a
cart or barrow. The London County Council also inserted
another clause providing for a certain amount of supervision
and control of such matters by that body, and
when these clauses came before the House of Commons
Committee, because there was a considerable amount of
