as compared with 698 during the previous year.

DEATHS.
The number of deaths registered in Deptford during the year
was 1232, equal to a death rate of 10.1* From this number 116
has to be deducted, being deaths of non-parishioners which occurred
in the Metropolitan Asylums Board's South Eastern Hospital, and
555 deaths of parishioners, which occurred in public institutions
outside the Borough added, making a total of 1671 (males 860,
females 811), and upon this number the statistics are based.
The death rate for the Borough was equal to an annual rate of
13.9 per 1,000 of the population, as compared with 13.5 for 1909,
13.9 for 1908, and 14.0 for 1907, per 1000 persons living, the average
for the past ten years being 15.1.
The death rate for England and Wales was 13.4, for the 77 great
towns 13.4, for the 136 smaller towns 12.4, and for the County of
London as a whole 12.7.
