Report on the sanitary condition of the Hackney District for the year 1910

2 were factory hands and 1 worked at each of the following businesses,
viz.:—millinery, hair-brush making, packing, book-keeping,
stationery work, nursing, tailoring and tie-making.
Of the 104 males, 11 were or had been engaged in different
branches of the boot and shoe trade, 8 were labourers, 5 plumbers
and gasfitters, 5 cabinet-makers, 4 soldiers, 4 carmen, 3 clerks,
3 hawkers, 3 porters, 3 glass workers, 3 leather workers; 2 were or
had been engaged in each of the following occupations, viz.:—
plasterer, compositor, painter, pianoforte maker, rubber worker,
carpenter, book binder, polisher, bricklayer, traveller, barman;
and 1 each was engaged as button turner, newspaper salesman,
postman, trunk maker, general dealer, omnibus cleaner, warehouseman,
sailor, window cleaner, knife machine maker, baker, farrier,
book publisher, dustman, manservant, decorator, box-maker,
hairdresser, policeman, harness maker, packer, tailor, tent maker,
litho artist, hat maker, housebreaker.
(b) Housing Accommodation.— Information under this head
was obtainable in respect of 133 cases notified.
Patients occupying One Room.— There were 14 patients, each
of whom lived alone in one room. There were also two cases in
which each patient shared the single room with one other person;
and there were four patients each sharing the room with two other
persons.
Patients occupying Two Rooms.— There were four patients,
each of whom occupied two rooms above. There were 13 patients,
each of whom shared the accommodation with two other persons;
10 with three other persons; 12 with four other persons; 8 with
five other persons, and 4 with six other persons.
Patients occupying Three Rooms.— Two patients occupied
these alone; 7 shared the accommodation with two other persons;
15 with three other persons; 7 with four other persons; 13 with
five other persons; 5 with six other persons; 4 with seven other
persons; 4 with eigth other persons; 4 with nine other persons; 1
with ten other persons.
