Many of these cases were notified more than once, the total
number of notifications received in connection with them being 436.

As a matter of fact, the number of times a case was notified during the year varied from one to six, as follows:—

Of this number again, 14 were notified from the Workhouse
and Casual Wards. Of the 242 cases notified under the above
Regulations, 83 died during the year, 75 in the Infirmary and 8 at
their homes. The total number of deaths from this disease in the
whole Borough during the same period was 257.
Enquiries, which were made into the circumstance, surrounding
and habits of life of cases notified during 1909 were continued
during 1910. Of the total notified, I was able to obtain information
in respect of 205 cases. The information obtained may be classified
under the following heads:—(a) Occupations; (b) Housing accommodation;
(c) Sleeping arrangements; (d) Precautions respecting
expectoration; (e) As to the use of separate eating and drinking
utensils; (f) Ventilation of bedroom.
(a) Occupations.— Information as to present or past occupations
was obtained in the case of 48 females and 104 males. Of the females
11 were engaged at home in domestic work, 8 were domestic servants
4 were engaged in laundry work, 4 in boot machine work, 4 in charing,
3 in confectionery, 2 in mantle making, 2 in blouse making;
