BIRTH RATE.
The births actually registered in Bethnal Green
during the year numbered 4,040, but to these must be
added the 168 Institution births away from home.
This addition raises the total to 4/208, which is equal
to a rate of 31.98 per thousand population, and is
slightly above that of the previous year, which was
31.47, the highest of all rates for the Metropolitan
Boroughs. The general London birth rate continues to
decrease, and now stands at 23.6, the lowest on record.
