The offences other than sophistication of samples
consisted in six cases of margarine served in a plain
wrapper, and in one case of obstruction as above
noted.
The cases dismissed consisted of one in which
the magistrate held that the milk was sold as it came
from the cow, and in another case as it was received
from the farmer, and in one case that legal notice had
been given before purchase; in three cases warranties
were proved resulting in dismissal.
Six summonses were withdrawn upon convictions
being obtained on other summonses in respect of the
same samples, one against a retailer was withdrawn
upon his wholesale man being convicted for delivering
milk deficient in fat, and in one case a summons
against a large firm was withdrawn upon the firm
obtaining a conviction against their roundsman for
tampering with the milk.
In connection with these tables, no proceedings
were taken in the cases of three samples of margarine
served in plain wrappers owing to the bulk from which
the inspectors were served being properly labelled,
