Only on two occasions previously has the return been so good, namely, in
1895, when it was 564, and in 1898, when it was 531.
The case-rate of 1.77 per 1,000 contrasts favourably with that of the
Metropolis, in which it was 2·57, and with that of the Encircling Districts, where
it was 2·49 per 1,000.
Only eight of the London Districts exhibited so low a rate.

The record of this disease since 1891 has been as follows:-
