lived in houses in "which one of these diseases was present, and who consequently
were excluded from school until the patient had been either removed to a hospital

It will be noticed from the succeeding statement that these figures are, on the whole, an improvement on those of the preceding year:—

N on-Notifiable Diseases.—In addition to the above diseases there are
others, which, though of an infectious nature, are not compulsorily notifiable,
either by parents, guardians, or by the medical profession, but which, under the
Code Regulations of the School Board for London, must be notified by the
teachers of their schools. These diseases are Measles, Whooping Cough, Chicken
Pox and Mumps.
For a very long while many of the teachers in these schools were very remiss
in notifying these cases to the Medical Officer of Health, but at length a great
improvement has taken place, and, as the returns for 1899 showed an improvement
on those of the preceding year, so do those for 1900 show a great improvement
on those for 1899.

In 1899 twenty-eight schools forwarded returns, while in 1900 thirty-seven schools sent them. In 1899 information was forwarded respecting 829 cases while in 1900 it was received with respect to 3,066 cases.
