Wealdstone,
9th March, 1901.
Co the Chairman and members
of the
Wealdstone Urban District Council.
Gentlemen,
I have the pleasure to present to you my Annual
Report for the year ending December 31st, 1900, which is in
many respects of a very satisfactory nature.
The correct estimation of population in a district like
this is attended with many difficulties, and after careful
calculation I estimate it at 6,500.
The registered deaths number 55, being 4 less than the
previous year.
The death-rate works out at 8.4 per 1,000 living—or, if
we include the death of a resident who died outside the
district, at 8.6 per 1,000 living.
This is the lowest death-rate we have yet arrived at, and
is most encouraging.
The average death-rate for the previous 5 years is 10.8.
In the March quarter 16 deaths were registered; in June
quarter 16; in September quarter 11; and in December
quarter 12.
The death-rate of Wealdstone for 1899 was again the
third lowest in the Countv of Middlesex.
The following is the distribution of deaths according to age:—
Under 1 year | 21 | |
1 „ and under 5 | ||
5 „ ,, 15 | 2 | |
15 „ „ 25 | 1 | |
25 „ „ 65 | 16 | |
65 „ and upwards ... | 10 | |
55 |
The Infant Mortality rate works out at 113.5 per 1,000
births. The average rate per 1,000 births for the previous
5 years being 131.6.
There were 5 deaths due to one or other of the principal
Zymotic diseases, amounting to a death-rate of 0.7 per 1,000.
