During 1930 the Committee made efforts to supply
Nurses, persons with some nursing experience, and
Home Helps to the sick, and a list of such persons has
been obtained. The Committee are now in a position
to place any person requiring such assistance in touch
with a suitable applicant. Although the Committee
have a considerable number of names on the register,
some difficulty is still experienced in times of an extensive
outbreak of a disease, such as Influenza, in meeting
the demands for help. Applications from persons
desirous of carrying out such work, either voluntarily
or otherwise, should be addressed to Mrs. H. Lang, of
32 Heath View, Little Thurrock, Hon. Secretary of the
Nursing Services Sub-Committee, or to myself.
(b) Infectious Disease.—There is no nursing in the
home for infectious disease, other than carried out upon
occasions by Health Visitors in cases of Measles, &c.
2. Midwives.—There are six Midwives practising
and resident within the district. Many Midwives of the
adjoining Urban Districts practice in the area. There
are no Midwives employed by or receiving subsidy from
the Local Authority, but I understand that one Midwife
is receiving a subsidy from the County Council.

3. Laboratory Facilities .—The examination of Pathological and Bacteriological specimens is provided for at the Essex County Laboratories, Queen Victoria Street, London, E.C.4., and during the year the following examinations have been undertaken.
