12. Health Education.
As the primary consideration of the work of the Medical Officers at
the Clinics and the Health Visitors in the homes is essentially that of
education, the giving of advice to individual mothers upon the maintenance
of their children's health is supplemented by periodical "talks"
to mothers at the Welfare Centres, the special clinics and at the Antenatal
Centre where instruction upon, and assistance in, the cutting out
of infant garments is given. Various leaflets upon the feeding of
children, the health of the mother before and after confinement, and
common ailments are provided.
13. Maternal IVSortality.
In accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Health a
confidential report is made in the case of every maternal death, the
information being collated for statistical purposes. Should occasion
arise, the services of Mr. W. Gilliatt, m.d., f.r.c.s., are available in
this connection.
13. Infant Life Protection.
In order to discharge the duties of registration and inspection of
Fostermothers and Fosterchildren the Deptford Borough Council has
appointed each of its seven District Health Visitors as an Infant
Protection Visitor, and Dr. S. E. Hill, Maternity and Child Welfare
Officer. is also authorised to visit.

Central Clinic.
The Maternity and Child Welfare Committee has been desirous
for some time of providing better facilities for its work by the establishment
of a Central Clinic. Excellent as the results have been at the
various branch clinics, there are obvious disadvantages in the use of
premises not particularly adapted for the purpose. Moreover, the use
