2. Welfare Centres.
(a) Infant Welfare. At the commencement of the year there
were nine Centres located in different parts of the Borough, one of
these being a voluntary Centre.
During the year, it was decided to close the Municipal Centre in
Church Street and transfer the staff to the voluntary Centre.
At all the Centres, the services of those ladies who assist in a
voluntary capacity is very helpful and greatly appreciated.

The following is a summary of the work done at the various Infant Welfare Clinics during the year:—

The Health Visitors collectively made 1,016 attendances at these
Clinics.
St. Francis Hostel. Although no recognised Clinic is held at
this hostel (which accommodates women and children), Dr. Hill
attends fortnightly and gives advice to those mothers desirous of
having their children examined. In all, 138 children were seen.
(b) Maternity Clinics. These are conducted at the Health Centre,
Harton Street, four Sessions par week being devoted to this purpose.
The service provided is designed to secure efficient ante-natal and postnatal
care. At present one of the Sessions is more or less set aside for
post-natal work.
