Marriages.
During the year 891 marriages took place, equivalent to a rate of
8.5 persons marrying per 1,000 of the population. By courtesy of the
Superintendent Registrar the following gives details as to the places in
which these marriages were conducted:

Births.
The steadily declining birth.rate in the country generally, has its
counterpart in Deptford.
After allowing for inward and outward transfers, i.e., the addition
of 512 children born of Deptford parents outside the Borough, and the
deduction of 32 children born inside the Borough, but whose parents
reside normally outside its boundaries, the number of births registered
as belonging to the Borough was 1,669. This is equivalent to a birth.rate
of 15.9 per 1,000 of the population and represents only a natural
increase of 3.7 per 1,000 of the population.
