Report of Tuberculosis Officer—continued.
successful that it is intended to repeat the same during the coming
year.
At the end of the year under report Mrs. Monk, who amid many
other activities still finds time for the very considerable work
attached to the supervision of purchases, sales, etc., organised for
the class, another very enjoyable tea and evening entertainment,
Councillor W. Taylor and other members of the Tuberculosis
Care Committee assisting by providing artistes and refreshments.
Mrs. Monk tells me that one of the girls who had been taught
glove-making, obtained regular work for a time outside at this
work. One of the men workers at leather work, who had such
employment occasionally, was able to improve his skill and
knowledge in a way which subsequently proved beneficial to him
in his employment. It is found that attendance at the Centre
braces the patient mentally, as evidenced by the improvement
shown in personal appearance, etc.
Report on Work of the Tuberculosis Care Committee 1931.
It was anticipated that this year we might have had to report
certain alterations in the functions of the Care Committee. No
change however has as yet been effected, and we have recently
been informed that the work shall be carried on in the same
manner for a further year ending 3rd March, 1933. It is understood
that before any proposed alterations are decided upon, the
Care Committees, through the Standing Conference of Metropolitan
Boroughs' Tuberculosis Care Committees, will be afforded
an opportunity of submitting observations.
At the last meeting of the "Conference" held at the County
Hall in November, 1931, our Chairman, Councillor Walter
Taylor was elected Chairman for the ensuing year. He will, we
know, carry out the duties of this important position with his
customary zeal and ability. The meetings of this body are,
we consider, most helpful, discussion of difficulties common to
us all, often leading to a solution.
Through the Conference, a visit to Papworth Village Settlement
was arranged in July for a limited number of members. A most
